Particle Reduction, Rotary Airlocks, Particle Size Enlargement, Sizing and Separation

Prater Industries, Inc. offer a full line of Milling, Sifting, and Compaction Equipment and Airlocks too. With over 75 years of experience in the Bulk Materials Industries, Prater offers experience for your applications.

FEEDING AND METERING

Rotary Airlock Feeders

Prater airlocks can be configured for most application requirements. By manufacturing airlocks with larger pockets (up to 50% more volume) our airlocks can run at lower speed. This minimizes air leakage, provides the benefit of longer life and higher return on investment. Knowing that temperature plays a significant role in the operation of rotary airlock feeders, ALL Prater airlocks are carefully machined for actual operating temperature at no additional cost.

Prater airlocks’ most attractive feature is the self-adjusting packing gland. This exclusive design significantly reduces maintenance by eliminating the need to manually adjust the packing seals as they wear.

Heavy Duty, Dust Collector, Ceramic Lined and Quick-Take-Apart Construction Available.

PARTICLE REDUCTION

Crushers, Shredders, Cake/Flake Breakers

Crushers are used for fast primary crushing of material in large chunks such as large pellets, poultry carcasses, corn cobs and similar products. Prater offers single and double roll models, both built to withstand the stress of industrial crushing. Prater shredders are used to break up large sheets or cut-offs of styrofoam scrap, gypsum board, plywood wall paneling, and other similar products. The rugged and dependable Prater Cake/Flake breaker reduces agglomerations or compacted materials into small particle sizes for processing. It is designed for the dry and liquid material processing industries. A variety of options are available with many models and sizes offered.

Mega-Mill Hammermills

This mill’s unique design provides nearly effortless access to all its internal parts for maintenance/cleaning, significant reductions on power needs, and provides a more uniformly ground product with greater efficiencies than other hammermills. Based on the Mega Mill's increased product handling capacities, at times, one machine may equal the output of two conventional units

Fine Grinding and Comminution Mills

Prater Fine Grinders (M Series Mills) are designed to grind dry, free-flowing material as fine as 200 mesh (75 microns) with very tight distribution of particle size. The highly efficient design allows for ease of access to all internals and is well suited for heat sensitive materials such as resins and sugar. Six sizes are available from the 3 HP M-19 bench scale lab mill to the 250 HP M-101.

Classifier Mills

The Prater Classifier Mill (CLM) offers the combination of two-stage closed circuit grinding with internal air classification, all in one unit. The unique capabilities of the CLM Mill out perform single-stage mills when handling difficult to grind products and those products requiring a narrow particle distribution. The large access door on these mills allows for quick inspection and/or cleaning of the main rotor as well as the classifier rotor.

SIZING AND SEPARATION

Rota-Sieve Centrifugal Sifters

Stainless steel Prater Rota-Sieve yields at least six times the throughput capacity of a conventional screen with comparable screen area. Used for centrifugal scalping or sifting of powders and granular materials. Operation is quiet, free of dust and vibration. Quick and easy maintenance. Optional equipment includes the Patented Rota-Trap, a stainless steel pre-scalping chamber that removes tramp materials and protects the sieve cloth.

Air Classifiers

All Prater Air Classifiers separate particles based on the opposing principles of centrifugal force and aerodynamic drag force. As product enters the primary air inlet, individual particles are subjected to aerodynamic drag forces by the conveying air. This drag force varies with the size and density of the individual particles. As particles spiral toward the classifier rotor, one of two things occur: 1) drag force exceeds the centrifugal force exerted by the rotor and particles pass through the machine as fines; or 2) centrifugal force overcomes the drag force, causing particles to accelerate away from the rotor, where a cyclonic chamber collects the coarse particles and discharges them. Cut-point is determined when the forces are equal, in which case particles have a 50/50 chance of passing as fines. Cut-point is variable and can be controlled by adjusting the rotor speed. A secondary air inlet introduces a controllable amount of air that moves upward into the classification zone, increasing the residence time of agglomerated particles

PARTICLE SIZE ENLARGEMENT

Agglomeration, Compaction, Granulation and Briquetting Equipment and Systems

This equipment utilizes a unique design to densify materials by applying pressure or by combining pressure with heat, binding agents or moisture. Prater’s compaction capabilities are used to improve flow ability, solubility, dust control, and waste by-products recovery. In addition, reduces storage requirements as well as substantially lowering transportation and product handling costs. Prater Compactors & Briquetters, available in either heavy or severe-duty versions are versatile and energy-efficient systems for compacting, densifying or briquetting your material.
