Magnetic Separators
TYPE ‘A’ MAGNET CIRCUIT A magnet circuit
used in magnetic separators that utilizes a number of closely spaced north &
south magnetic "poles" to create a powerful magnetic field to capture
and retain small to medium sized tramp metal contaminants. Type ‘A’ magnet
circuits are ideally suited for applications such as final inspection of high
quality consumer food products.
DRAWER & HOUSING
MPI’s
Drawer & Housings offer a pre-engineered design solution to improve operator
access on manual clean models or complete automation on self clean models. These
features reduce or eliminate costly man hours required to maintain maximum
magnet performance. The pre-engineered designs also improve plant area
housekeeping and minimize product loss during cleaning through the use of robust
and reliably designed Housing seals and component mechanisms. |
ALL MAGNETIC GRATE
MPI’s All Magnetic Grate is designed to offer a 100%
magnetic coverage Grate Magnet design. The Grate Magnet’s frame element(s) is
magnetically charged to provide a powerful magnetic surface to collect tramp
metal and also magnetically charges the Grate Magnet’s diverters. The
diverters are made from 400 grade stainless steel allowing them to become
magnetized so they can also capture tramp metal. This product is commonly found
in choke fed gravity hopper systems such as plastics injection molding machines. |
GRATE & TUBE
MPI’s
magnetic Grates and Tubes provide effective magnetic protection in a wide
variety of free flowing, vertical, gravity product streams. They are easy to
install and are an economical solution to protect processing equipment and
improve or maintain product quality standards. As tramp metals are captured,
they are washed around to the magnet’s underside where it is hidden from
oncoming product flow, eliminating tramp metal "wash-off". |
ROTO GRATE
MPI’s magnetic Roto Grates are designed to offer a magnetic
solution for difficult flowing products that typically bridge and choke in
conventional magnetic Grate or Drawer & Housing applications. These magnets
can capture many of the same tramp metal contaminants successfully removed from
process streams by magnetic Grates or Drawer & Housing models however tramp
metal "wash-off" can be a factor when using this model type ‘A’
magnetic separator. |
PNEUMATIC LINE MAGNET
MPI’s
Pneumatic Line Magnets are designed exclusively for use in Dilute-Phase
pneumatic conveying systems. Typical applications include powder or granular
food products, pharmaceuticals, plastics and chemicals that are conveyed in
these, high speed low density to air volume systems. As product is conveyed in
the line it is diverted around the magnet’s nose cone and past the alternating
north & south magnetic poles. The tramp metals are captured on and collect
behind the sanitary welded, ribbed magnetic poles to minimize tramp metal
"wash-off". |
LIQUID FINGER TRAP
MPI’s
Liquid Trap Magnets are designed to remove metal contaminants from food grade
quality, sanitary application liquid process flow lines. The magnetic Tubes or
"fingers" protrude from the housing top, down into the process flow
area. As product is pumped past the magnetic tubes, metal contaminants are
captured and collected. Process line size, pressure and product viscosity are
three key factors when considering this model magnetic separator. |
COOLANT CLEANER
MPI’s
line of magnetic Coolant Cleaners provide continuous cleaning and removal of
large volume tramp iron typically found in metal grinding, milling, turning and
broaching machines. The magnet slowly rotates while partially submerged in the
machine pump coolant reservoir tank. As coolant is pumped into the tank, the
magnet attracts and removes the tramp metals from the coolant where it is
carried to the top of the magnet, out of the tank. A wiper blade scrapes
collected tramp metals off of the magnet into a collection area for final
processing. |
INLINE FILTER MAGNET
MPI’s
Inline Filter Magnets offer an industrial application class liquid flow magnetic
separation option. This model’s economical design is ideally suited for
applications such as EDM wire machine pump reservoirs, hydraulic press lines or
other low pressure industrial product process lines. |

TYPE ‘B’ MAGNET CIRCUIT A magnet circuit
used in magnetic separators that utilizes a north & south magnetic
"pole" with large spacing between poles to create a powerful magnetic
field to capture and retain medium to large sized tramp metal contaminants. Type
‘B’ magnets are ideally suited for applications that include high product
volume stream flows and the need to capture and retain large volumes of tramp
metal between magnet cleaning cycles.

TYPE ‘C’ MAGNET CIRCUIT A magnet circuit
used in magnetic separators that utilizes a number of north & south magnetic
"poles" with large spacing between poles to create a powerful magnetic
field to capture and retain small, medium and large sized tramp metal
contaminants. Type ‘C’ magnets are ideally suited for applications that
include high product volume stream flows, the need to capture, retain or
automatically remove large volumes of tramp metal between magnet cleaning or
inspection cycles and high quality metal removal performance is needed.
FREE FLOW CYLINDER MAGNET
MPI’s
Free Flow Cylinder Magnet is an MPI exclusive designed magnetic separator that
utilizes a six sided permanent magnet located in the center of a stainless steel
housing for use in vertical gravity-fed product flows. As the product passes
over and around the magnet, tramp iron is captured and collected. Oncoming
product flow, if able, washes tramp metal around to the bottom side of the
magnet to eliminate tramp iron "wash-off". These models are ideally
suited for applications that require high magnetic performance in difficult
flowing, abrasive or high volume process stream flows. |
DRUM SEPARATOR
MPI’s
Drum Separator magnets provide continuous collection and removal of tramp iron
in vertical gravity-fed process streams. Depending on the application, these
models are available in standard AXIAL (MPI type ‘C’) magnetic design or
RADIAL & SALIENT (MPI type ‘A’) magnet designs. |
SEPARATION ROLL
MPI’s
Separation Roll magnets are designed to retro-fit into new or existing product
belt conveyors. Like Drum Magnets, these models are available in standard AXIAL
(MPI type ‘C’) magnetic design or RADIAL & SALIENT (MPI type ‘A’)
magnet designs. A variety of shaft mounting options and lagging are available on
all sizes. |
EDDY CURRENT SEPARATOR
MPI’s
Eddy Current Separator has been designed using only the highest quality magnetic
materials and system components to ensure safe and reliable superior
performance. All units include MPI’s soft start PLC electrical controls. Eddy
Current Rotors are also available for customers fabricating their own brand of
Material Recycling Facilities and systems equipment. |

VIBRATORY FEEDERS
MPI’s
Vibratory Feeders are available as stand alone components or as a total material
handling storage, metering and conveying solution. These pneumatic feeders offer
a very economical option to typical electro-mechanical vibratory feeding
systems. Although a wide range of standard systems are offered, nearly any
custom application design can be easily provided from a full line of standard
drive components. All units are explosion proof and waterproof. |

Services
Product Testing
Magnetic Products offers FREE PRODUCT TESTING in
order to ensure proper application and separation equipment for each particular
job. Using our product testing laboratory, we will simulate real world
conditions using the customer supplied samples and MPI separating equipment. MPI
will test the products and issue a report identifying the parameters of the test
and the final results. If requested, the samples will be returned to the
original source with removed tramp metal as a separate item.
Product testing confirms proper separation equipment. Often materials contain
para-magnetic trace elements that can only be confirmed with testing. Product
characteristics often limit flowability and capacity. Product testing will
ensure proper size and configuration of Magnetic Separators. Method of feeding
product is important to the overall results of a Magnetic Separator. Product
testing can re-affirm results.
Magnet Audits
Magnetic Products offers FREE MAGNET AUDITS. In
order to ensure that Magnetic Separators meet the standards and requirements of
industry and our customer base, we offer a detailed audit of all magnetic
separation equipment at our clients specific plant locations. These audits serve
as HAACP documentation as well as meeting the plant requirement for QA
standards.
The Magnet Audit involves identification of all magnets in a plant. A
qualified MPI specialist will work with plant employees to draw-up a plan for
auditing the equipment. The MPI specialist will visit the plant and physically
inspect each magnetic separator and measure its effective strength. An audit
inspection report will be developed that identifies the equipment and reports
findings. Priorities will be specified and pictures of the equipment will be
taken. A formal report will be issued shortly after the fieldwork, which will
provide an Overview of the findings, an Evaluation of each piece of equipment
and a Detailed Inspection Report. Equipment photographs are used as reference
points. The findings are formally presented to plant QA personnel to determine
if there are actions to be taken.
Equipment Rebuilds
Often magnetic equipment can be rebuilt, rather than replaced. In many cases
"state of the art" magnetic components can be substituted to bring the
equipment to current day standards. MPI has rebuilt magnetic conveyors, magnetic
pulleys, eddy current rotors, oil cooled electro-magnets, magnetic drawers and
chutes. Just about every piece of magnetic equipment has the potential for
rebuild. Often we will upgrade older Magnetic Separators with current higher
strength RARE EARTH magnetic components. Rebuilds offer another way to save time
and money in providing effective magnetic solutions. For
